Join us for a presentation exploring how we currently measure the success of a lighting project, how we should be measuring the success, and how we get to this future. This will be the lens with which we discuss the process and lessons learned from the design, installation, commissioning and commissioning again of a tunable white lighting system at a hospital behavioral health facility in Boulder, CO. This “anti-case study” will dive into the often messy and frustrating process of implementing advanced lighting systems, as well as the results of a series of staff surveys and documentation of patient room button press data. We will consider the design, installation and commissioning processes, stepping through each one to answer the question of how success was measured along the way, and where there are opportunities to shift the thinking of stakeholders in the process, so others can take the lessons learned to improve their next project. The presentation will highlight the collaboration between the architectural team and lighting designer from Boulder Associates with, researchers from Pacific Northwest National Laboratories and the lighting control manager from Visual Interest.
